Mixing and mastering are essential aspects of music production and occur after the recording process in order to prepare your tracks ready for release. Listen to the example below to see if you can hear the difference between unmixed, mixed, and mastered audio.
Mastering uses similar tools to the mixing process but applied holistically, and for different reasons. The example below required only subtle applications of EQ, compression, and excitation as the mix was already good. The most immediate thing you will notice, is the jump in loudness, which is not always necessary but is very common in mastering.
